Mangaluru : Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim told educational institutions to carry out social profiling of every student and staff, so as to gear up preventive measures towards atrocities against students.
He was addressing the police safety meet with heads of various educational institutions in the district, held by Superintendent of Police at Police Community Hall in Mangaluru on Tuesday.
Crime could committed by others or by students themselves. Hence, it is essential to keep a track of details of students, along with other staff. Cases of psychological disorders in students, if any, should be recorded and addressed to the concerned immediately.
The Deputy Commissioner meanwhile expressed his concern on increasing drug abuse cases among students and felt for a need to include value education in college curriculum.
Superintendent of Police S D Sharanappa told all educational institutions in the district to submit a report on the preventive measures taken towards atrocities against children at their places, to him, before May 15.
He said false information will attract stern action. POCSO Act has been implemented by the Centre to prevent atrocities against children. As per the act, erring school management and heads will be subject to punishment.
He said all educational institutions must anti-ragging cell along with anti-ragging squad, committee against atrocities on women, anti-ranging committee, counseling cell and also to follow safety measures such as installation of CCTV cameras, towards prevention of atrocities against children.
A police staff should be a member in anti-ragging committee and lady police staff should be present as a member in the committee against atrocities on women. If the police staff are not present in the committee, such institutions must place a request before the sub-inspector, to depute the police staff.
The antecedents of vehicle drivers should be verified and the non-teaching staff should also be subjected to police verification. An entry- exit register should be duly maintained in every institution, he added.
