Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada District administration on Tuesday directed owners and occupants of all public places in the district to install closed circuit television cameras (CCTV camera) in their premises to ensure safety of general public.
Presiding over a meeting on pubic safety here, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim gave one month’s time to complete the formalities. The cameras should adhere to specific standards and the system should be capable of retaining the footage for at least one month, he said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mangaluru City, K. Santosh Babu said because of installation of large number of CCTV cameras in London (about 1.8 million), the City witnessed least number of crimes.
Mr. Ibrahim said public places, including bus stands (KSRTC as well as private), shopping complexes, malls, cinema halls, religious places, educational institutions, MESCOM installations, bars and restaurants etc., should have the cameras.
