Mangalore: A World Environment Day rally organized in the city on June 5, Tuesday was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Dr NS Channappa Gowda. The rally was taken out from Light House Hill Road upto the Town Hall. A formal function was held in this connection at Town Hall under the joint auspices of the district administration, in association with Mata Amritanandamayi Mutt and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board.
The Town Hall function was inaugurated by Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer KN Vijayaprakash. Jahnavi, a student of Amritanandamayi Mutt School, spoke on the importance of the day and how people can save nature.
On this occasion, garbage bins in three colours, green, blue and red for food waste, paper waste and plastic wastes respectively, were handed over to Karnataka Ayurveda College and Subhaschandra Bose School. Saplings were distributed to all the participants of the function. Dr Jeevaraj Sorake, MD of SCS Hospital,Brahmakumari Mangalamrita Chaitanya, AG Pai, Director and CEO of JBF Petrochemicals Mangalore, and others were present.
