Mangalore : Deputy Commissioner N Prakash inaugurated the street sweeping machine on March 16, Saturday atthe premises of MCC office. The machine is suitable for sweeping concrete roads and other flat surfaced roads.
It is a self-propelled vacuum sweeping machine with two side brushes. The front brush has a central vacuum. The machine also has a provision of water spraying and has a capacity of sweeping 10 to 12 kms of 2.5 meter roads per hour. The machine consumers seven to eight liters of fuel per hour.
As part of solid waste segregation project, waste bins to pilot wards viz Mannagudda and Court wards, were also distributed. A total of 7800 ten litre bins (3900 each of green and yellow colour), 600 wheeled bins of 120 litre capacity ( 300 each of green and blue colour) and 50 wheeled bins of 240 litre capacity (25 each of green and blue colour) were distributed.
The bins will be distributed free of cost to the households to segregate their garbage into organic and inorganic waste. Organic wastes will have to be dumped in the green bins and inorganic wastes in yellow and blue bins.
The organic wastes will be sent to the 2 Tpd Biogas plant located near Urva Market, while the inorganic matter will be routed to MCC Sanitary Landfill and Compost Plant.
