Mangalore: The VP Mallya Road near Carstreet in Mangalore is set for widening by 15 meters for a distance of 370 meters.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda, MCC Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar along with other officials and elected representatives including local corporator Surekha Srinivas inspected the road on September 27, Thursday.
The DC informed on the occasion that as many as 44 properties will be vacated alongside the road and the owners of the property have agreed to vacate. They will be given compensation or transferable development rights, the DC said.
The district administration will construct the compound wall of all these properties while the property owners will have to finish the other works, the DC said. Some portion of the entrance of the Mahalaxmi Ganapathi Temple, Janatha Bazar, Mohini Vilas will need to be vacated for the road widening purpose The DC and the Commissioner also spoke to the authorities of the Mahalaxmi Ganapathi Temple who assured to shift the main entrance of the temple before Dasara.
The road widening work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
