Speaking at the meeting A B Ibrahim has directed the MCC Commissioner to initiate measures to lay speed breakers in the city limits by January 15. After laying the humps, it should be painted and ‘cat eye’ should be fixed along with the installation of sign boards to provide a smooth and safety ride for the vehicle users.
Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike President Hanumanth Kamath said that humps should be laid near Empire Hall, Chilimbi. “The officials who take interest in laying concrete roads are not showing same interest in laying humps and footpaths. The humps should be laid as per the guidelines of Indian Road Congress. Good quality of humps should be laid,” he said.
Reacting to it, MCC in-charge Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak said that 31 humps will be laid in the city limits. The contractor will start the work on Friday.
When public said that footpaths have not been laid near Bishop House, SCDCC Bank, and Navbharath Circle, the MCC Commissioner said that the work was delayed owing to a row over land.
T R Bhat said that the footpath has not been laid on Falnir road. How many years will it take to complete the work on footpath in the city.
When the public said that parking of vehicles on road in Ujire, Belthangady, Subrahamnaya, Bantwal should be checked, SP Sharanappa said that if the Gram Panchayats pass a resolution on no parking zone in its limits, the police will enforce it.
As the DC had issued no parking zones in Vittal, the parking of vehicles have been prevented and traffic congestion has been solved to some extent.
Rs 10 lakh will be utilised for the purchase of traffic equipment for road safety. As a part of crime prevention month, the police department has been creating awareness in schools and gram panchayats.
He appealed the vehicle drivers to keep all the documents in the vehicle.
When auto drivers raised the issue of auto parks in the city limits, the Commissioner said that proposal on 112 auto parks will be placed in the council for approval. Once the council approves, it will be notified by the DC.
Objecting to it, auto drivers said that the MCC, police and auto drivers’ representatives had identified 340 locations for auto stands. The council had given nod for 280 auto stands three years ago. The restriction on parking of only five to 10 autos in an auto stand should be removed. Kamath said that unauthorised auto parks that have mushroomed near Car Street should be cleared for the easy flow of traffic. Parking of private vehicles beside the road should also be checked.
Canara Bus Owners’ Association President Rajavarma Ballal said that the road from Kulai to Panambur is filled with potholes. Repair work should be taken up on priority basis, to which, NHAI official said that the government has sanctioned money for the relaying of the road. Patchwork will be taken up immediately. Representative of bus owners association said that the police should install a barricade at Adyarkatte.
Residents of Surathkal said that lorries that are parked on either side of the road from Surathkal to Bykampady have been causing inconvenience to the vehicle users.
