Mangalore: Deputy Commissioner N Prakash has said that the election code of conduct is in force in DK district for the ensuing assembly elections and that the code will be effective till May 11.
Speaking to reporters, he said the last date for filing nominations will be on April 17. The nominations will be scrutinized from April 18. The candidates can withdraw his/her nominations by April 20. The elections will be held on May 5, from 8 a.m to 5 p.m and the counting will be on May 8. The DC informed that the entire election process will be over by May 11.
The DC said all measures will be taken to ensure free and fair elections.Compared to 2007 elections this year the voters number has increased by 3%, the DC informed.The DC said there were a total of 14,61,659 registered voters as per the latest voters’ list and that there will be 1,627 polling centres. There will also be 101 auxilliary voting centres, he informed. The administration has already issued voters cards to 99.76 per cent of voters, while remaining will be issued ID cards by the officers concerned. Those who wish to register their names in the list or want to make corrections can do so till April 13.
