Mangalore : DK Dt. DC Dr. N. S Chennappa Gowda promised on Saturday to consider all aspects of inflation and automobile spare parts price rises, before deciding upon private buses hiking their travel fares in city. He presided over a meeting of regional transport authority called at the DCO auditorium. He sought guidance from the state after considering the appeals of commuters on one side and bus owners on the other to take a final decision.
The representatives of people were opposed to anymore hike in bus ticket rates and asked that transport be nationalized to serve common men. The bus owners demanded 50 paise for in first 4 stages of journey and Re.1 minimum hike thereafter (5th stage. They said that cost per km. had gone up.
DC heard both sides and decided to call one more meeting to fix new rates, if any. RTA secretary Mallikarjuna and DCP Labhuram and other officials were present.
