Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada Sasikanth Senthil has asked tahsildars to set up control rooms in taluk headquarters for the effective delivery of relief measures. At a meeting here on Monday to discuss the preparations for approaching monsoons in the district, Senthil said that sea erosion, flooding, epidemics and landslips were the primary problems which had to be tackled through micro planning.
Senthil asked MESCOM officials to inform the district control room (number 1077) about power cuts and other damages to the power distribution network caused by the monsoons.
He said that the time required to repair such casualties or restore interrupted power supply should also be informed. He also asked all officials to respond to complaints which receive on their mobile phones. He askd officials of Public Works Department, tahsildars and urban local bodies to identify flood-prone areas and implement preventive measures.
Senthil said that health officials should create awareness in the grassroots level about preventive measures for the spread of epidemics like cholera, malaria and dengue. He also said that Home Guards should have a public address system to warn visitors in beaches about the dangers of the sea during the monsoons. A Home Guard official said that tents were required for them for their duty on beaches during the rains.
Senthil also asked the police to prevent unnecessary gathering of people during relief operations and opined that the roads connecting such affected places should be cordoned off. He said that this was necessary to ensure the smooth movement of Fire and Emergency Services personnel and other government vehicles deployed for relief measures.
Commissioner of Mangaluru City Corporation, Mohammed Nazir, said that workers were assigned to each ward in the city to attend to immediate works and that specific task forces would be set up in June.
