Mangalore: The District Congress staged a protest on May 29, Tuesday, urging for the release of Lokayya Poojari, a Congress worker who was recently arrested on charges of illegally possessing liquor.
Addressing the protestors, DCC President Ramanatha Rai said Poojari was arrested as the police department and the excise department acted at the behest of the BJP. He also alleged that the complaint against Lokayya was false and accused that the police had fixed Lokayya in the case. He also demanded a thorough investigation and arrest of the cops found guilty.
Mulki Moodbidri MLA Abhayachandra Jain and several other Congress leaders and workers took part in the protest.
