New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev’s remarks on the timing of the note ban during the peak wedding season is surely quite amusing.
Ramdev jokingly stated that: “Many in the BJP are bachelors…they didn’t realise it was wedding season…that was the mistake.”
The yoga guru who is known to be close to the ruling party and has even campaigned for the party ahead of the 2014 national election further added that if the government had done this around 15 days or one month later then the weddings wouldn’t have been so badly affected. One good thing that has come out of all this…people cannot demand dowry, he said at an event on Thursday.
While the decision on note ban seen as a move to curb blackmoney has been welcomed by many, it has also inconvenienced families that had weddings planned during the months of November and December.
The government on Thursday allowed families planning weddings to make a one-time withdrawal of Rs. 2.5 lakh.
Amid the cash crunch, an exception was the extravagant wedding hosted by mining baron G Janardhana Reddy for his daughter on Wednesday at a royal palace in Bengaluru, where there were replicas of monuments and a cavalry of elephants and other animals, a dining hall with a village setting and Brazilian dancers.
