Mangalore: A demonstration was held at the DCO gates on Monday (25th Oct) by the members of an NGO named “Namma Mane, Namma Ooru” (our home, our town) which serves as a ”fighting forum” for civic infrastructure, to recall V. Ponnuraj IAS, the immediate past DC/DM now transferred to Shimoga, to allow him to serve at least one year in Mangalore as an honest and hardworking officer. He came here on 05-01-2009, it was stated.
The demonstrations led by S.P Chengappa and several other private bodies presented a letter of request to the present DC of DK dt, to be sent to CM Yeddyurappa and J.Krishna Palemar, DK Minister incharge.
Their plea was that the popular DC should have been retained at least for one year more to implement his social welfare schemes towards improvement of common citizen’s life in the district.
Their complaint was that the outgoing DC V. Ponnuraj was suddenly transferred out of DK (in a series of transfers) and a new DC was brought in when certain popular public works such as road-widening, clearing of footpath venders etc, remained unfinished, and vested interests intervened to press the transfer of DC who was efficient in his duties, said S.P Changappa in his speech at the demo site in city this evening.
B.S Chandru, Co-ordinator, B.S Karunakar, M. Kamalaksha, Hussain, Hameed Kuloor and Sandeep among several other private organizational heads were present.
