Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a phone-in programme here on Friday, the police head said that his team has already nabbed some culprits in Hebri. He said check posts have been installed at crucial junctions, especially in the junction areas of Hebri, Someshwara and Mudradi where frequent complaints on cattle theft are reported.
Elaborating about the cases filed and arrests carried out under the complaints received in the last phone in-programme conducted on March 2, the SP said that 18 cases have been filed under Matka allegations and 22 arrests carried out while 79 people have been arrested for 12 gambling cases. Two people have been arrested in one illegal liquor sale case that was reported.
Four were arrested under 3 NDPS cases, he said and added that 287 cases were reported under COTPA, 1,380 cases for not wearing helmets, 31 drunken driving cases, 40 cases for using mobile while riding/driving, 135 for shrill horns, 100 cases for over speeding and 1,438 cases under other categories.
As many as 24 cases on various issues were received, of which three were exclusively about the increasing illegal trafficking of cattle in Hebri and Ajekaru area.
There were two complaints of traffic violations at Murumarga in Karkala. Some callers complained about a rickshaw stand adding to the woes. The SP promised to look into the problem.
In reply to a query, the police head urged the public not to seek any help from middlemen, who offer assistance in securing passports and visa. He added that the public should be aware that there is no need for middlemen to get a passport or visa.
The process has been made simple and the public can themselves perform the required formalities, he said and added that there are complaints that the aspirants are made to believe that they are offered visa for jobs, but actually it will be the tourist visa for a few days, he said.
The SP took immediate action to clear the density of traffic caused by petty garages working on either side of the road at Karvali junction.
A complainant alleged that the drainage facility is not offered by the municipality and that effluents flow on road at Royal Apartment near Diana theatre. There were complaints against the functioning of the bars and liquor shops beyond the restricted time limit. One complainant stated that the traffic near Kollur temple is a mess. The SP promised to set right the traffic woes in the area.
