Mangaluru : With June 10 being the last date to file objections to land acquisition for widening a stretch of National Highway 169 (Mangaluru-Solapur) between Mangaluru and Karkala, the objections would be heard at the level of the Deputy Commissioner.

Informing this to presspersons here on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim noted that more than 200 objections, primarily from land owners on the stretch between Bikarnakatte and Kulashekara, have been received by the special land acquisition officer—the assistant commissioner of Mangaluru revenue sub division.

Assistant Commissioner Ashok said notification under Section 3 (A) of the Land Acquisition Act is already issued while the final notification would be issued after hearing the objections.

Responding to charges that the authorities have marked properties only on one side of the existing road, the Assistant Commissioner as well as National Highways Authority of India official, claimed that they are going by the detailed project report for the project.

In all, 224 hectares of land—184 hectares private and 40 hectares government—would have to be acquired for the widening of the road, said National Highways Authority of India Project Director Samson Vijay Kumar. The road would be four-lane between Bikarnakatte and Moodabidri and two-lane between Moodabidri and Karkala.

Bypasses would be constructed for Gurupura village and Moodabidri town to skirt the busy habitations, Mr. Kumar said.
