Mangalore: Women Employment Shri Shakti Groups organized an Exhibition cum sale of handmade articles and eateries at Kanthi Church Hall, near Mangaladevi Temple on October 3, Monday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, Deputy Speaker N Yogesh Bhat said that the state government has agreed to establish a building at the estimate cost of Rs 65 lakhs for the self employed women in the city.
He also said that more number of women must indulge themselves in the self help group and show their talent in various handicrafts and the public must purchase the products from them and encourage them.
Speaking at the press meet prior to the inauguration, Sarojini Bharadwaj, chairperson of Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation said that the corporation, through NGO will start Mahila Udyog Margadashana Kendra (Women’s Employment Guidance Centre) for the unemployed women and give training for them.
She also said that the self employed must be motivated through giving loans and around 15 groups from the Dakshina Kannada have applied for the loan.
Under the scheme Jeevan Saathi, the corporation will give loans to the street vending women’s from Rs 500 to Rs 5000 and government has given the budget of Rs 2 crore for it. This has been already started in the places such as Gadag, Mysore and Shimoga, she added. Around 16 applications from handicaps have been received for loans and state commissions have approved 13 applications for handicaps.
The exhibition comprised of hand made products like varieties of pickles, eateries, Papads, hand bags, ornaments, concoctions, dress materials and other products.
