Chikkamagaluru: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) president H D Deve Gowda said that he will take out a state-wide tour from November 15 to strengthen the party for the 2018 Assembly elections.
Speaking at the JD(S) workers convention at the AIT boys’ hostel on the outskirts of the town on Tuesday, he said that he has discussed about strengthening the regional party, with JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy.
He has planned to stay in Hubballi on November 1 or 2. “Four teams have been formed for the tour. It has come to my notice that some leaders in northern Karnataka have been carrying out false propaganda against the JD(S) leaders. The people, however, are aware of what the JD(S) is,” he said and called upon the party workers to work sincerely towards the victory of party leaders.
Deve Gowda said that he has been believing in the path of revolution. “The JD(S) has never believed in hereditary rule. During my tenure, I did not misuse the funds or cheated anyone. Equal opportunities will be provided to the candidates from all communities in the 2018 elections, as far as JD(S) is concerned,” he promised.
The leader however admitted that the party needs to be strengthened in Hassan, Mysuru, Mandya and Tumakuru. “The party is growing in Hubballi, Davanagere, Bidar and other districts. The people in northern Karnataka have not forgotten the 20 months’ administration of former chief minister Kumaraswamy. The State Election Commission has warned of cancelling the party symbol by November 30, if its guidelines are not followed. Therefore, the party leaders should forget the differences among them and focus on organising the party,” he advised.
MLA Y S V Datta said that Deve Gowda is an inspiration to the younger generation. He has vast experience in politics and his decisions have always been right. He is working towards the growth of the party in the district, said Datta.
DCC Bank president S L Dharmegowda clarified that there is no difference of opinion between him and Y S V Datta. “I will not contest the upcoming Assembly elections from Chikkamagaluru constituency. My father and I have been serving Kadur constituency. I will adhere to party high command’s decision,” he added. MLA B B Ningaiah and JD(S) district unit president Manjappa were present.
