Bangalore: The Rajya Sabha member Ayanur Manjunath (BJP) has urged H.D Kumaraswamy to apologise to the nation for denigrating the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on corruption, as if he (HDK) has taken a contract to remove corruption from public life, by talking every now and then on eradicating corrupt ways.
Law minister Suresh Kumar accused HDK on Tuesday of going beyond what British had done in their times. As ex-CM, HDK should have been careful while referring to Mahatma Gandhi in wanton words, Suresh spat at the JD-S leader.
H.D Kumaraswamy apologised on Monday for what he said earlier that Gandhi would have become corrupt if he had lived in present days, and in a one-upmanship HDK’s father Devegowda said that Gandhiji would have committed suicide, appalled at the level of corruption at present.
HDK blamed the media for wrong reporting of his remarks made about Gandhiji in Hubli on Sunday. He added he had only explained how difficult and costly it was for a politician to live and carry on in present days. The politician has to spend a lakh of rupees daily, going round hospitals, temples and making generous contributions, thus obviously giving rise to corrupt ways, HDK explained.
Devegowda picking up in Hassan what his son Kumaraswamy had said in Hubli, had worsened the situation by saying that Gandhiji would have committed suicide (a la a farmer with debts unpaid), such difficult days had come now.
At any rate, JD-S has been now exposed in a poor light, by bringing in Gandhi, where Hazare would have been sufficient.
