Mangalore: In a tragic incident reported from Pakkaladka Bajal on October 14, Sunday, a differently abled young woman ended her life by committing self-immolation after dousing herself with kerosene.

The woman has been identified as Vidya Gatty (24), daughter of Sanjeeva and Saraswathi Gatti.

Though initially it was suspected that a stove burst was the cause of the accident, later it came to light that it was a suicide as Vidya herself reportedly told while being taken to the hospital that she had attempted to kill herself. She died in the hospital.

It is learnt, Vidya’s mother was away and her old father was at home when the incident took place. Reports said Vidya had gone to the bathroom to light the fire and after some time began to scream. Though neighbours rushed and broke open the door she refused to come to the hospital, despite suffering grievous injuries. Finally, she was taken to hospital but breathed her last.

Kankanady police have registered a case.
