Mangalore: M C Vishwanathaiah,DIG of Prisons on October 28, Sunday visited the new building of the district sub-jail which is under construction close by the old jail building near the Canara College in Mangalore. The new building has been built at a cost of Rs 6 crore.
The visit of the DIG of prisons in the aftermath of the recent infighting and clashes in the district jail, gains relevance. He was accompanied by prisons officials and the building. Speaking to reports, he said the under trials presently lodged in the old sub-jail would soon be shifted to the new premises.
Asked about the several incidents of brawl reported inside the Mangalore prison in the recent past, Vishwanathaiah said such minor fights were common and said in many cases the media ‘blows the issue out of proportions.”
