New Delhi: Speaking in a public meeting held in New Delhi today, the Congress General Secretary, Digvijay Singh, lashed out at Veer Savarkar, a Hindu Mahasabha leader and martyr to the cause of Indian freedom struggle, that Veer Savarkar was the first man to propose division of India on Hindu-Muslim majority lines, and the two- nation theory was picked up from him by Mohd. Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan, later on, and the Indian sub=continent was partitioned into 3 bits.
Singh reiterated that theories which are extreme and away from the political mainstream, would not unite a country, nor keep it united for long.
Singh justified his allegation made against V.D.Savarkar. The two-nation theory was not good for the health of a nation, he warned. No true Hindu or a Muslim can have extremist ideologies to support his actual faith, he added.
D.Singh took BJP to task for seeking political publicity in the name of hoisting Indian flag in Srinagar on Jan.26 last. It was a controversy that BJP achieved, D.Singh retorted.
