Mangaluru: The two day National Level Media Fest – Beacons of Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO) was inaugurated by Director B.S. Lingadevaru, on Tuesday, March 8 at its Paneer campus in Deralakatte.
The fest which aims at being a platform for students in bringing out their talents began with the screening of award winning movie ‘Naanu Avanalla Avalu’, followed by a discussion and debate on the same.
In his inaugural speech, Mr. B.S.Lingadevaru spoke about the movie making skills and the current scenario of the cinema industry.
“Students must develop social responsibility within them which can help society to grow. As education is commercialized, we find students working hard only to make a good fortune. It is the responsibility of the educational institutions to provide a platform to bring out their talents and promote their skills” he added.
Highlighting the influence of cinema and media over human behavior he said that cinema should not be a fashion, but it should be one’s passion.
A total of 115 students from 13 different colleges participated in the media festival. The function was mastered by Neel and Leora. Head of the Department, Mr. Raviraj Kini welcomed the gathering. Event coordinator Ms. Deekshitha Prashanth proposed vote of thanks.
Spot Photography, Movie Spoof, Creative Writing, Product Launch, Radio Jockeying, Just a Minute, Stand-up Comedy and Poster Making were few events held on the first day.
