Speaking to the media media on Friday, July 9, VHP regional working president, Prof M B Puranik said, stringent action should be taken against those who slaughter cows and the police should also seize the livestock from the accused. As per the Central Motor Vehicle Rule, 125E the transportation of livestock should be done in vehicles having a ‘special permit’. Even during Bakrid, animal sacrifice is banned by the Animal Welfare Board of India, he said.

The anti-cow slaughter law attracts 3 to 7 years in jail and a fine up to Rs 5 lakh. If a cow, that is less than 13 years of age, has been slaughtered the police are required to detain the accused and if the latter is found guilty place him under arrest, he said.
