Mangalore : DC Subodh Yadav inaugurated the national consumer day celebration held under the joint auspices of district administration, food and civil supplies department Mangalore, district consumer federation and district consumer information centre at the Ganapathy High School Hall in the city on Monday January 10 at 10.00 am.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that, Consumer must be aware about dramatic weight variations, quality, price and brand of the product to avoid possible fraud taking place in the society.
Delivering his keynote address, District Consumer Federation president M J Salian said that consumer act which came into existence in the year 1986 has helped the consumer to register complaints if in case they are cheated by the supplier.
He also said as per the Consumer Protection Act 1984, every district should have Consumer Information Centre. There are five Consumer Information Centres in Karnataka including that of Dakshina Kannada.
P Shivashankar, chief executive officer of Zilla panchayat presided over the occasion. DDPI Chame Gowda Food and Civil Supplies Department deputy director Vrushabha Rajendra Moorthy and principal of GHS Shanthakumari Devi were present.
