Mangaluru: For the first time, the district administration has decided to undertake dredging operation at the Thumbay vented dam to remove large quantity of silt that has accumulated beneath. Through this step, the administration plans to solve the problem arising in storing more water in the dam.
The Union Environment Ministry had recently permitted the District Administration to undertake dredging operation. Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has formed a committee comprising MCC officials for the purpose. Tender has already been invited through the committee and once the process is complete, dredging operations will commence.
Presently water is stored upto a height of five meters. But the silt beneath has reduced the water storage capacity.
MCC Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer has said that the dredging operations is likely to commence in the next few days.
