Mangaluru : The Dakshina Kannada district administration issued a circular directing officials to wear “decent dress” while in public.
In a circular issued on June 18, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said that instances of government officials and employees wearing T Shirts, fancy shirts, jeans trousers, etc., have come to the notice of the administration. Such employees should desist from the practice and start wearing clean and decent dresses, befitting government servants, he said.
This should be followed without fail while receiving VVIPs, including the President, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister, the Lok Sabha Speaker, the Chief Justice of India, and judges, Governor and the Chief Minister during their visit to the district. The officials should also keep themselves update with the names and designations of the visiting VVIPs, he said.
Asked what constitutes “decent dress”, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim told that, “Everyone knows what is a decent dress befitting a government servant.”
An official wearing a pair of jeans trousers and a T Shirt while welcoming the Governor during his recent visit to Mangaluru prompted Mr. Ibrahim to come out with the circular, he said.
Every government employee represents the government and his appearance in public should be in a manner that enhanced the government image, Mr. Ibrahim said.
The other day, he had sent out an employee of the transport department from a meeting as the latter was wearing a pair of jeans trousers and a printed, collar-less T Shirt, he said.
Besides the dress code, the circular dealt in detail with the procedure to be followed while providing transportation, arranging accommodation, etc., for the visiting VVIPs.
