Mangaluru: “The contractor will be held responsible for the untoward incidents which may take place during the raid on illegal sand mining places and criminal case will be registered against such contractor,” said Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner K G Jagadeesh.

Speaking to the media personnel on Thursday, he said that the district administration is ready to curb the illegal sand mining activities.

“People can also inform the concerned authorities regarding the illegal sand mining. Names of the informers will be kept confidential and if necessary then district administration is ready to provide the security also,” he said.

He further said that investigation will be done on death of Shareef, which took place in Bantwal. Compensation cannot be given under natural calamities.

“As the top brass of district police have requested to provide the compensation, district administration will consider it as a special case and the decision will be taken soon,” he added.
