Mangalore :With the plastic ban coming into force in Mangalore taluk from November one onwards, the Mangalore City Corporation as well as the district administration have jointly requested the public against throwing plastic wastes on the road and requested the public co-operation in the effective implementation of the ban.
Speaking to reporters, MCC Commissioner Harish Kumar said the door to door garbage collection system would soon be launched and there is also a plan to make the city bin free by December.
Deputy Commissioner Dr NS Channappa Gowda who also spoke, said it has been noticed that people were still disposing banned plastic bags in the garbage bins and hoped the effective implementation of waste segregation and door to door waste collection process would lead to reduction in dumping of plastic wastes on the roadside.
He also claimed that nearly 30 to 40 per cent of plastic usage has come down but pointed out that the banned plastic of below 40 micron thickness are still being used at some places. He said five mobile teams will be on the move in the city in order to ensure effective implementation of the ban and to slap penalty on those violating the rule.
