Mangaluru: The District administration, Kannada and Cultural Department and Karnataka Nekara Association jointly celebrated Devara Dasimayya Jayanti the city, on Wednesday, March 25.
DC AB Ibrahim inaugurated the programme in a formal function was held at NGO hall. Ex MLA Kumble Sundar Rao, Karnataka Devanga Association President R.Venkatesh, Devang Community President Shridhar and Padmashali Mahasabha’s D.K. unit President Purandar Shettigar.
Speaking on the occasion, Kumble Sundar Rao, said weavers community should be united to avail facilities from the government and also come to the mainstream of society. He called upon weaving community members to educate their wards.
Devara Dasimayya, who belongs to the 10th century, is considered a vachanakara who preceded Basavanna, by another school of scholars. There is even a third section of historians who claim that both are the same and historians have recorded them differently, he said.
Dr.Meenakshi Ramchandra, gave special lecture on Devara Dasimayya’s messages.
Kannada and Culture Ministry’s Asst.Director Chandrahas Rai was present.
