Mangalore: The DK district administration, the DK Zilla Panchayat, and the District Health and Family Welfare Department jointly organized a programme titled Small Family Overall Development at Regional Advanced Pediatric Care Centre (RAPCC) at Wenlock Hospital as a part of World Population Day on July 26, Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, health and family welfare officer Dr. O. R. Srirangappa, said that the India’s population has increased from 36 crore in 1951 to 121 crore in 2011. He also said that if this is the situation, country’s population will rise to 800 crore in 2025 and about 8 crore within Karnataka.
DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda said that every year July 11 was observed as World Population Day in order to create awareness on population growth.
DK Zilla Panchayat president K. T. Shailaja Bhat, presided over the event. MLA U. T. Khader, Dr. Sangameshwar, the district medical officer, and many others were present on the occasion.
