Mangalore : DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda in the meeting conveyed at DC court on July 26, Tuesday directed flat owners’ associations to inform the district administration or the assistant commissioner if they come across cases where children below 14 years are employed as domestic servants.
Further speaking at the meeting held to review implementation of action plans for the eradication of child labour, he said that owners always employ children as domestic servants although they know that it is against the law.
After conducting 16,424 inspections from the year 2007 – 08 to 2010 – 11 around 30 child labourers were rescued in the district. These children have been rehabilitated and the amount of Rs. 2, 25,000, which has been collected from the offenders are deposited in the child rehabilitation fund.
Speaking on the occasion, Venkatesh Shindihatti, the assistant commissioner, Dr. Harish Kumar, the Puttur sub divisional officer; Nagesh, the labour office and others were also present.
