Mangaluru: District Congress party commemorated the birth anniversaries of former PM Rajiv Gandhi and former Karnataka CM Devaraj Urs, on Saturday at district Congress office.
Speaking on the occasion district in-charge Miniter Ramanath Rai said that both Rajiv Gandhi and Urs had progressive vision. Most of the youths and women were attracted towards politics during their tenure.
“Rajiv expanded the boundaries of education and introduced modernised higher education system in country. Devaraj Urs is the one who erased the traces of Zamindar system. He also strived to stop bounded labouring. These two works done by Urs made us to remember him after a long time also,” he said.
Further attacking on saffron outfits he said that saffron outfits are spoiling the young generation. It is provoking youth to involve in anti-social activities.
Chief Whip of legislative assempbly Ivan D’Souza said that Rajiv Gandhi passed the amendment of decreasing voting age to 18 years. Urs had the viion of providing a decent life to the backward caste people.
