Ujire/Belthangady: In Tumkur district, at the instance of Dharmasthala progressive thinking, an amount of Rs.30.11 lakhs worth of agricultural implements have been sanctioned by D.V. Heggade to encourage the agricultural activities of small and tiny bands of farmers who are friendly towards modern progressive thoughts in farming.
3750 teams of such progressive farmers have been now formed in the ten talukas of Tumkur district. Here, farmers exchange every week physical services on a co-operative basis, in the absence of labour requirements, and carry out developmental work happily.
For such 2 bands of farmers, two baskets, two earth moving implements, one pick-axe, and one large knife are provided to facilitate their farm activities. These implements are used in the weekly labour exchange programmes by agro-labourers.
A Sum of Rs.1.76 crores has been spent on acquiring all thee implements used for several states so far among 24,188 progressive farming teams, says a release issued by SDM Rural Development Plan(R) on September 7 here.
