Mangaluru : The Mangaluru Police Commissionerate and District Police Department jointly celebrated the Police Flag Day in the Mangaluru Police ground on April 2, Thursday .
Kushalappa Gowda, retired ASI released the Police Flag Day stickers and said that, the sale of the police flag will be used for the welfare of the retired police officials. He also urged to establish a library for the officials.
Amrit Paul, Western Range IGP, Dr Sharanappa, District Superintendent of Police and S Murugan, City Police Commissioner were present as chief guests.
As many as 59 of 63 personnel, who were to be felicitated for retiring from service in 2014, stayed away from the event meant for the welfare of police personnel.
The retired police personnel have been asking for extension of ‘Aarogya Bhagya’ health scheme provided for them.
“It is after retirement that many of us need this scheme for the various aliments we may suffer from during service,” said B.J. Bhandary, President of Dakshina Kannada Unit of State Retired Police Personnel Association. They also seeking extension of police canteen facility wherein they can get food and other commodities at subsidised cost.
Replying to the demand, Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Amrith Paul said that they were in favour of the demand and had sent their recommendation to the Government. “It involves finance and I am hopeful of a positive response from the Government,” he said.
