Mangalore : DK District Administration, Kannada and Culture Dept., Public Instruction Dept. and Dakshina Kannada district Sahitya Parishat organized and conferred DK district Rajyotsava Sadhaka Award – 2010 on 12 Young achievers at an event held at Town Hall on Nov 1, Monday. It was inaugurated by A.T Malati, a Kannada writer.
In her address Malati stressed upon Kannada being taught in rural areas where English is spreading now in high schools, as a result of which Kannada may become a forgotten language in the years to come. There is no objection to any one learning English in modern days but Kannada in its own states must have top priority as certain other languages have in other state. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura presided over the function.
Chandra Kumar, Chame Gwoda DDPI, Jayavathi Shetty Director and Damayanthi were on on dais as chief guests of the evening.
The awards were given to young persons for their achievements and contributions to the society in their respective fields.
Dr N. V. Upadyaya, who is aged 103, was felicitated on the occasion.
The award recipients were Kumari Chaithra (singing), Nikhitha (Bharatanatyam), Priyanka (Karnataka classical music), Prihali (multi-talented), Krithi K Shetty (multi-talented), Ashwin (weight lifting), Nishanth Kumar (Kannada studies), Ankhita Ramesh Rai, Mumbai (multi-talented), Suresh Shetty Yayyadi (Gadinada Sanghatane), Arundathi P Rao (education) and Shyam Jadugar (magician).
