Mangalore: The DK Zilla Panchayath in association with Public Education Department, DK District Level Teachers Day Committee and Mangalore City Zonal Teachers Day Committee celebrated the District Level Teachers Day and felicitation programme to mark the 123rd birth anniversary of Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan at Town Hall on September 5, Monday.
Speaking after inaugurating the event, District in charge minister Krishna J Palemar said that Dakshina Kannada has received the status of educational hub. According to the survey done by Joint Review Mission, DK has received the 20th place in the field of education in the country.
He also said that we don’t want the western culture in education, where students directly complaint against teachers to police officials, but here teachers have good respect towards teachers.
Teachers will be retired only from their work, but they receive the respect of teacher always. Criticizing the election commission, he said that teachers are given extra works like election duty and enumerators at census and later complain about not giving the qualitative education to students. This is the mistake done by election commission, he added.
The state government for the first time in the history has given the Budget of Rs 12,000 crore for education. The teachers who stage protest are losing their respect of their profession. He also urged the state government to deposit their salary to teachers account on 1st of every month.
State level awardees of 2010-11, Mr Dayanand Rai of Navodaya High School, Puttur was felicitated on the occasion. Apart from it, 12 district award winning teachers of primary and High Schools were also felicitated with shawl, fruits, memento, bouquet and citation.
Chief Guest Capt Ganesh Katnik said that Karnataka is the state which spends highest for education.
He also said that all the departments are getting their salary on 1st of every month, but the teachers are not paid till 15th and will also cross to 21st an sometimes receive after two months also. If the state government play less game, then the education department will flourish in the state, he added.
Deputy Speaker N Yogesh Bhat presided over the event.
