Mangalore : The Dakshina Kannada Karavali BelliMandala screened Beary, a Beary movie that won the national award, in RavindraKala Bhavan, Mangalore University College on June 16, Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy President Rahim Uchil said that Althaf Hussain, director of the movie, hascreated history. He also lamented that the film has not been widely received inthe Beary community although it bagged a national award. Stating that the Bearycommunity does not encourage cinema on religious grounds, he urged members ofthe community to treat cinema as a means of communication rather than a tool for entertainment.

Vijaykumar Kodialbail, president of the Karavali BelliMandala, said that Tulunadu is proud of the fact that a film made in one of itslocal languages won the national Golden Lotus Award. He also revealed themandala’s plans to screen Gubbachchigalu, a film by Abhaya Simha, in the nearfuture.
