Mangalore, April 19: City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that comparing to the previous years crime, there is 25 percent of decrease in crime in the present year.
Speaking at the press meet held at Police Ground on Tuesday April 19, he said that in the year 2009 all together 902 cases were registered, 869 in 2010 and 826 in 2011.
He also said that the police officials have done the good job with the Police Control room vehicle provided to them. So the police department in the second phase provides 10 PCR vehicle and the kits to each police station based on performances to deal law and order and accident cases. Still there is necessity PRC with kits until that the police stations will share it.
The kit will comprise of electric baton, fire extinguisher, standard rain coats depending on the monsoon, digital camera and even apron along with other necessary items required for the safety of police staffs and public during emergency. At present there are 70 motorcycles working under the entire commissionarate, he said.
The commissioner also urged the NGO’s and other general public to volunteer to control traffic system in the city. He asked the public to register their names along with their mobile numbers at the police station coming under their limits on or before April 26. If the department receives good response then there will be formal clarifications on the person and provide the training to actively participate on the traffic duties in various aspects. After the completion of training, they will be provided with the special jackets and identity card, which will be used to control the traffic during the various situations like floods, processions and so on.
Commissioner also said that this is an initiative to make the public friendly with the police department and this is successfully running in Bangalore.
