Mangalore: A national Women’s movement on the International Women’s Day this week has raised slogans such as ‘Control the Prices (on essential commodities)”, “Confirm the right to Food”’ and allow 33% women’s representation in legislatures to women” in a rally of women organised today near DC office gates by Janawadi Mahila Sanghatan DK district committee at 11 am. A collective demonstration followed by speeches from leaders took place.
Speaking on the occasion DK Unit of Janawadi Mahila Chief Padmavati Shetty , stated that women formed half the population but did not secure half the benefits men enjoy in legislatures and other areas of administration in which corruption reeks due to men’s misdemeanors. The housewives are at the receiving end of the stick of price hikes on essential goods.
If only women were allowed to rule, the size of corruption would shrink and everybody would get food under a BPL card. Everything is reversed due to male domination and hesitation to act against offenders in law now, Padmavati stated. Vasanth Achary also spoke to say that the govt. should prioritise women’s issues in society.
Sukanya, Kiran Prabhu, Jayanthi B Shetty, Ramani, Bharati Bolar, Vasanti Kuppepadavu among others were present.
