Mangaluru : Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Union Ltd. (DKMUL) has begun supplying its flavoured milk, Suvasitha, to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
The first consignment of its 50,000 bottles was dispatched on Friday, according to Raviraj Hegde, president of the union.
The milk in 200 ml cast polypropylene bottles (CPPs) is made in four flavours — badam, rose, pista and mango. Of them, badam flavour milk bottles are more in number, he said.
The consignment has been sent as per an agreement between Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) and IRCTC, Mr. Hegde said.
Suvasitha milk in polypropylene bottles (CPPs) can be stored up to 90 days. The recyclable CPP bottles are easy to transport and have double sealing.
The cooperative launched Suvaistha milk in CPP bottles in November last. Earlier, it was marketing the milk in glass bottles. It has set up a CPP bottling unit at Kulashekara at an estimated cost of ₹ 1.5 crore.
Mr. Hegde told The Hindu that the cooperative now marketed chocolate flavoured Suvasitha milk in glass bottles.
The cooperative is working with Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. (CAMPCO) to make it perfect and tastier and re-launch it in CPP bottles.
