12.06.10 Mangalore : Forcing children below 14 years work in house or any other place is not only a crime but an inhuman practice, said Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Commissioner of Mangalore City Police.
Speaking after inaugurating the event World Anti-Child Labour Day held at St Aloysius High School here, on Saturday, June 12, he said that children must be sent to school since it is a social responsibility of a parent and the society.
He said that, people must stop purchasing the products from the company which employs children. Since purchasing those product will be similar to encourage child labour practice.
Chief Guest Dr K N Vijayaprakash, the Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation, said that the present social and economic system of society has contributed much to the practice of child labour.
H R Deshpande, District and Session Courts Judge, presided over the programme. M Purushotham Bhat participated as the resource person. Gopal Gowda, Labour Officer, welcomed the gathering.
Civil Judge R V Patil, Assistant Labour Commissioner Venkatesh Appayya Sindhi Hatti and Chamegowda, Deputy Director of Education Department were among those present.
