Mangaluru : A group of 30 – 40 men abducted and assaulted an assistant professor Dr. Abhijith Shetty of Yenepoya Medical College in Deralakatte near here following the death of a patient in ICU in the early hours of Tuesday.

City police commissioner M Chandra Sekhar told reporters on Tuesday that a mob around 40-strong, barged into the hospital shortly after a patient died in the ICU at around 11.30pm-11.45pm on May 15.

The 65-year old patient named Bavunhi, a resident of Kinya, was brought to the hospital with chest pain. The patient was admitted in the hospital and treatment was given. However, the patient did not respond to the treatment and later died.
