Mangaluru: “How can we release water to Tamil Nadu, when we don’t have water to drink. The judicial order on Cauvery row to release 6,000 cusecs of water on daily basis till October 6 is wrong. No matter if I go to jail, but I insist the government not to release water to Tamil Nadu,” said former union minister Janardhana Poojary.
Addressing the press conference on Friday, he said that he is ready to face any sort of consequence and even ready to go to jail for the betterment of 6 crore people.
“Though the present order of SC is shocking, the government should follow the decision taken by the joint assembly session. I don’t understand why the Sc is creating this mess up. The state government has clearly said that there is no water in Karnataka and it will be difficult to release more water. How can we release water, when there is no water at all?” he questioned.
He further said that there is enough water in Mettur dam. In fact the monsoon begins from October, in TN. The court should know this fact before announcing the order.
Karnataka hasn’t said that it won’t follow court’s order, but the court has created a situation where the Karnataka has been forced to refuse the order.
Former MUDA president Dr B G Suvarna was present.
