Mangalore : The Mangalore City Corporation organized a start up programme on door to door collection on segregation of waste at Urwa market on January 10, Monday.
The MCC has arranged two separate bins to collect the waste from the houses and restaurant.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, DC Subodh Yadav, said that the MCC has kept two green bins for the decomposable waste like food and vegetables and blue bins to collect the plastic material.
He also said that, it is a profitable business and the global tender for three packages will be called and the tender permission is received and within 6 months the waste management will be done in Pacchanady dumping yard, Mangalore North Ward and Mangalore South Ward.
Presiding over the event, Mayor Rajani Dugganna, said that the segregation of waste is a good work started in the city and it needs public co-operation. She also urged the public to give Rs 30 for waste collection and co-operate the city corporation.
First the programme will be started in three ward and on Jan 13, the programme will be started in Shaktinagar and Ganapathi High School road.
The amount of Rs 30 will be collected for residential houses, Rs 50-Rs 500 for Hotels, Rs 100- Rs 500 for marriage halls and veg and non vegetarian markets must be paid monthly and compulsorily, she said.
MCC Commissioner Dr K N Vijayaprakash said that the awareness will be created in every schools and colleges.
Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, Roopa D Bangera, Naveenchandra, Shantha R, Ashwini Kumar, Geetha Nayak and Social Worker Prabha Kudva were present.
