Pune: Death occurred to Dr. Bhimsen Joshi, Bharat Ratna and world renowned Indian Classical Uttaradi musician, here in Pune at his residence. He was 89, a veteran vocalist, a bhajan singer and a classicist from Karnataka settled in Pune.
Pandit Joshi was born in Gadag in 1922. He got trained in Kirana Gharana, under the great vocalist Sawai Gandharva.  He was a radio artist in Mumbai. He made waves among music lovers with his album at 22 (1944). Both critics and masses praised his music.
He also acted in dramas as a hero and married the heroine Vatsala.  He was in Mangalore several times and local people nurtured his music. His place in Northern music circles may not be filled up ever.
