Bangalore: Jnanpeeth Award winning writer Dr Chandrashekhar Kambara has deplored the imposition of English learning on children and thereby trying to curb the creativity in them.
He was speaking after inaugurating the three-day Akhila Karnataka Makkala Sammelana organised by the Karnataka Bala Vikasa Academy and Akhila Karnataka Makkala Koota in Bangalore on December 23, Sunday. Dr Kambara said parents who under the notion that only English medium learning will attribute a bright future for the children, are misleading the children.
The learning of English has only helped students gain more information while actually there was a decline in knowledge, he said. He also emphasized the need to conduct story sessions in schools every Saturday.
Mahesh Tenginakai, President of Bala Vikasa Academy, TV Maruthi, President of Makkala Koota, V Shivaleela, Sammelan Vice President and others were present.
Earlier a procession as taken out from Basavanagudi National College grounds to the sammelan venue. Bharath, the Sammelan chairperson and Shivaleela, Vice President, too were taken in the procession.
Over 500 children from various schools across the state are taking part in the conference.
