Mangalore: Speaking at the press meet held at Press Club on March 6, Tuesday Dr B M Hegde said that Dr Hans Peter Durr, former executive director of Max Planc Institute Germany will be delivering 3 lecturers in Dakshina Kannada from March 11 to March 13.
He also said that Dr Durr, who specializes in nuclear and quantum physics, is the winner of Alternative Nobel Prize (Right Livelihood Award) in 1987 for founding the Global Challenges Network, a world Peace initiative to counter the Star Wars Program and achieve social justice and peace. Dr Durr also holds a honourary doctorate in Philosophy. ‘It is for the first time that a scientist of Dr Durr’s stature is visiting this part of India.
Dr Hegde said that the rare combination of physicist and philosopher makes his lectures of interest to not only students and faculty in science and humanities, but also to the general public. He has found strong similarities between the most modern view of matter as understood by physicist and the most ancient one as understood by India’s philosophers.
Speaking on the programmes, he said that Dr Durr will be speaking on March 11 at Shobhavan of Alvas Education Foundation at 5 pm, addressing general public and students and teachers of physic. On March 12, at 11 am he will speak to students and faculty at NITK and on March 13 at 5 pm, he will deliver a general talk on ‘New World View of Physics’ at Corporation Bank Auditorium, Pandeshwar. All his lectures will be followed by a one-hour question and answer session to provide ample opportunity for the audience to interact with the distinguished visitor.
