Mangalore: The 110th birth anniversary of renowned writer DR. Kota Shivaram Karanth, was observed at the Town Hall on Monday, October 10, organized by Kalkura Foundation and Kannada Sahitya Parishat-DK unit here. The Upadhyaya couple (Dr. U.P. Upadyaya and Dr. Sushila Upadyaya) from Udupi inaugurated the event in the presence of dignitaries who knew Dr. Karanth and his novelswell.
DK minister Krishna Palemar addressed the gathering and praised the great contribution made by Dr. Karanth to kannada language in many ways. Karanth had written over 400 books on various topics of art, culture and traditions, even dreams. Parents should tell their children about the Jnan Peeth awardee of DK in every home, Palemar suggested.
He also congratulated the organizers of this event for their efforts to keep the memory of Kadal Theerada Bhargava alive till today. A wild life sanctuary and a road in city have been named after him in city.
Cultural events, including a play, were arranged on the Occasion. Dr. Harish Kumar, the new Commissioner of MCC, K. Anil, MD of Indian Overseas Bank, and John D.Souza, DGM of local Corporation Bank, were present on the dais. Master Vithal, a dancer, was felicitated on the occasion.
