Sullia : Dr Kurunji Venkataramana Gowda (85), Educationist and Founder President of Sullia Academy of Liberal Education passed away on August 7, Wednesday due to brief illness.
Dr KVG, who came from agrarian family, established started the first institution Nehru Memorial College in 1976, which is accredited with A Grade by NAAC, popularly known as mother institute of Academy.
Dr Karunji has the achievement of revolutionizing higher educational institutions like medical colleges in the rural area of Sullia.
Dr Kurunji was conferred with national and international award comprising, Honarary Doctorate from Florida University, USA, Rajiv Gandhi Ekta award, Glory of India award, Indira Gandhi Sadhbhavana award, Karnataka Sahitya Academy award, Parisararatna award, Vikas Jyoti award, Udupi Manukula Bhushana award, International Gold star Millennium award, Mother Excellence award, American Medal of Honour, Nepal Friendship Award, Rastriya Ratan award, and many others.
Dr KVG is survived by his children Dr K V Chindananda, Dr K V Renukaprasad and Vardhini Jayakumar.
The Mortal remains of the Dr KVG will be kept for public homage at Nehru Memorial College Auditorium, Sullia from 8 am to 12 pm on August 8, Thursday. The funeral procession will conclude at his native place Kurunji of Sullia, where the last rituals will be performed.
