Bangalore: Dr. M. Narayana Murthy, Mentor and chairman of Infosys Ltd., has resigned as chairman of Indo-French CEOs union that he helped to set up, in indignation about being ignored, when certain names he had suggested as members, were not taken up.
The Central Trade and Commerce ministry(now under Anand Sharma), had made Murthy the chairman of the association in 2008.
Dr. Murthy had earlier in December 2011 written to PM Manmohan Singh about his discomfort, in the bypassed names for membership. He had indicated his decision to resign over the issue.
PMO had immediately told the ministry to consider Murthy’s suggestions, but the ministry paid scant respect to the PMO pressure, or to Dr. Murthy.
Dr. Murthy had suggested to the ministry, to make Jamshed Godrej, Rakesh Mittal, and I.I.T., Mumbai director Dewang Khakker as members from the Indian side. But the C & I ministry made some others as members, ignoring these 3 names, thus insulting Dr. Murthy.
Although minister Anand Sharma contacted Dr. Murthy on the developments, the latter did not flinch, for putting in his papers on the issue.
