Mangalore : The department of IT, BT and S & T, government of Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS) has established the ‘KEONICS Cyber Lab’ facility at Ramabhavan Complex, Navabharath Circle, Kodialbail on Saturday July 23.
After the inauguration of the office M N Vidyashankar IAS, principal secretary, department of IT, BT and S & T, Governement of Karnataka said that according to a survey conducted by Symentec, India has the highest ratio of outgoing spam and junk mail. So far Karnataka, the IT hub of the country has registered highest number of crimes. The internet has become extremely unsafe and even dangerous because of the serious threats such as Phishing, money laundering, defacement of websites, identity theft, cyber stalking and many more.
He also said that last year around 64 cases have been registered and this year around 22 cases have been registered and last month 11 cases were filed and all were solved and this year total 4 cases are pending. He also said that 120 police will be trained and this training will be given by private sector and not Government.
Cyber space security management has also become a matter of concern as far as national security is concerned. It is also a well-known fact that in the security blanket of anonymity of the internet and lack of resources to the brought them to justice terrorism has increased, initiated and funded its agendas.
KEONICS cyber lab’s aim is to strengthen the cyber security system of the country; this initiative will start locally and will also garner support nationally. Conducting various cyber safety sensitization programme for all Government Departments and to act as a resource centre for guiding law enforcement authorities in investigation of cyber crime cases are amongst the few initiatives.
The Cyber Lab’s primary focus is on Law Enforcement Cell, Judiciary Department, Government Department, Banking Sector, Academia and Netizens.
District in charge minister Krishna J Palemar inaugurated the Cyber Lab ceremony held at Hotel Ocean Pearl.
Chief guest Dr V S Acharya, minister for higher education participated launched the Kannada web portal E- SAFE and said that this cyber lab like KEONICS will help to provide security to Cyber crimes.
He also said that the terrorist frequently use the internet’s and hack many documents and other privacy information from others files, hence this is important. KEONICS is helpful to keep the IT industry safe.
He also said that law enforcement and legal fraternity related to awareness must reach to people through KEONICS.
ZP president Shailaja Bhat, MLA Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLA UT Khader, Mayor Praveen and others were present.
